Last week, I got a package from RSC with the latest set of Battle Packs! After taking a good look at them, I finally had a chance to sit down and take some pics. Let’s start with the weakest pack in this set, IMO…
The Rock vs. John Cena
These two are arguably the biggest names in the WWE right now with a high-profile match coming up in Wrestlemania 28, a match that was set a year ago! A two-pack with them seems like a dream pairing, so why did I rank it last? I mean, the Rock is one of my all-time favorite wrestlers but this just isn't my favorite figure of him.
This Basic Rock comes with removable sunglasses, a microphone, and a rubber shirt. While this is a modern Rock, with the Samoan tattoos and newer headscan, he's still not ring ready since he comes with molded pants. Also, he still doesn't have his current goatee!
At first, I thought Mattel had taken the easy route and given the Rock the same American Flag Brahma Bull shirt from the E14 version but it's actually a different one. E14 comes with a muscle shirt while this one is a sleeveless T-shirt. I'm glad they chose to use a different type of shirt!
For the most part, this is a Basic version of the RTWM Rock with some E14 aspects thrown in. If you want a good, wrestling Rock with Samoan tattoos then I recommend the E14 version. If you want a modern Basic Rock, we'll probably have to wait until after WM28!
Of course, this set comes with a John Cena figure. Normally, I'd dismiss this as yet another Cena Basic. I think I already have about four of them. However, this Cena gets some extra points for being among the first to get new tweaks in his sculpt!
He comes with a new headscan, red Cenation attire, and a microphone. This is one of my favorite new scans for Cena and I'm glad that his skin tone is molded into the plastic and not painted on, like his earlier Basic release was.
Aside from the new headscan, this Cena figure is sporting brand new torso and arm sculpts. The muscle toning on this new sculpt is less chiseled with a more subtle and realistic look. The new arms are bulkier with bigger biceps and triceps!
Overall, it's a good set but for me, it still represents the preview/hype of their upcoming WM match. The Rock still isn't in his full wrestling gear and John Cena is outdated in his earlier red attire. If anything, this set makes me look forward to future Basics of a WM Rock and camo John Cena!
Now, it's time to look at a set that comes with one of the debut figures that I've been waiting for...
Sin Cara vs. Daniel Bryan
Accessories-wise, there's not much to this set, just a folding steel chair. Still, it's the figures that are the main attraction here, starting with the American Dragon, Daniel Bryan...
This is the third Daniel Bryan Basic and this time he comes with a darker, maroon attire and a new headscan!
The trunk details are pretty cool, especially the dragon design on the back!
While the new headscan still hasn't caught up to Bryan's latest look, it's a good one and my favorite for him right now!
Next up is a debut figure that I was excited to see, the mysterious warrior...Sin Cara!
Mattel did a good job in capturing the cool look of his mask and adding his signature designs. He comes in his original blue attire, a simple figure but a great one to add to your collection!
Overall, this is a good set with an exciting debut that will most likely make it the most popular pack in this set. However, there's still another set that I liked better. What's better than a cool new debut figure? Two of them!
Brie Bella & Nikki Bella
The Bella Twins are finally made in the first full Divas two-pack! They come in a nice black attire with a molded top. It's glued shut so no peeking underneath!
Being twins, you'd almost expect Mattel to simply reuse one twin and phone it in but they did a great job in capturing little nuances by giving Nikki and Brie their own headscans. On top of that, there are also subtle differences in their hair styles. If that's not enough, they added a BB and NB on the back of their attire to make it easier to tell them apart!
Aside from the molded top, Mattel gave the Bellas their own unique sculpt for their legs. The ruffled thigh-highs add a nice touch to their attire and I like the extra white they added to the trim!
The Bella Twins only come with one accessory but it's an important one, the Divas championship! The Divas belt was the last championship belt that needed to be made in order to complete the set of modern belts. However, being a Basics set, this belt is a dull one without any painted details. It's a shame that it doesn't have a better, dull painted deco, especially since this belt is probably not one that will be released often. At least the plate sculpt is really well done and an Elite version will be offered later on!
Overall, the Bellas are a great addition to the Divas roster and Battle Packs 3 is a nice set with new sculpts, three debut figures, and a new championship belt!
