"You can look but you can't touch!"
Actually, it can be hard just to get a look at these two Divas figures because the Bella Twins have been among the toughest two-packs to get. I'm glad I pre-ordered their first set from Battle Packs Series 15 because I never once saw it at any stores...One of the few, rare WWE Mattel items that eluded me so completely in the last four years!
Fortunately, Mattel revisited these lovely twins in a brand new Battle Pack set that's been easier to find. I've already spotted the Bellas on three different occasions at Target and Kmart!
So let's take a close look at Nikki and Brie before they roll away and pull a Twin Magic switcharoo with one of those Punk/Taker BP sets that I keep seeing everywhere, heheh!
If you're familiar with their debut set, then you know what to expect here because this new set is a simple repaint. Instead of their earlier black attire, the Bellas are now sporting red, strapped ring gear without the additional halter vest. The lines along the straps are crisp and clean but the overall deco is a plain red. The original set had some white accents that spruced up the design but this one is just a solid red with only a small silver brooch/buckle painted on their tops.
The only other extra detail are the silver initials printed on the back of their short shorts that help identify who is who.
So the initials are the only way to tell them apart? No! Those that have seen the original set will recall that Mattel went the extra mile and gave Nikki and Brie their own distinct headscan and hairstyle. The same heads are used here again and work just as well as the first time. Some of the Divas have needed updated headscans but fortunately, the Bellas were well done from the start!
If anything, though, this new set makes a couple of improvements with the heads. For one thing, they rest slightly better on the bodies and don't have as bad of that no-neck syndrome that the original set had. Also, even though they share the same headscans, these new Bellas actually look better. Upon closer examination, I noticed that the eyebrows and eyeliner are painted differently. It's a subtle change but it greatly improves their expressions and looks more natural to me.
Like all Battle Packs, this set comes with an accessory: The Divas belt. As with other Basics belts, this one is dull but it's a little different from the original one. Instead of being a flat lavender color, it's now cast in a more metallic shade and seems to have a subtle metallic wash that almost makes it shimmer. It doesn't really show too well in my pics but it is a nice improvement over the original bubblegum belt!
Overall, the Bella Twins are nice figures and while I prefer their original attire, it's nice to see a second, updated release for those who missed them the first time. Since their return, Nikki and Brie have been an active part of the Divas division and recently, the Total Divas show. So it's a good time for them to get their figures out again. They're still short-packed but hopefully, collectors have a better chance of finding them this time. I've already seen them on multiple occasions, so that's a promising sign!
